A legendary training run in Fort Collins, Towers Road rises a murderous ~1700 feet in 3.4 miles of mostly service road. Many runners complete this in about the time they would typically complete a road 10k.
The trail starts at the Soderberg trailhead in Horsetooth Mountain Park. Descent options and continuations are many, as the park has nearly 30 miles of trail, and the adjoining Lory State Park another 25.
Fort Collins Trail Runners have a long-established evening time trial on this route every other Thursday at 6 pm year-round. I always have trouble making this in the summer due to gigs, but that's not looking like it will be a problem in 2020.
